Associate Director &
Associate Director for Public Programs and Exhibitions

The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM), PhiladelphiaÕs pre-eminent contemporary art museum and artist residency program seeks to fill two senior management positions to work as a team, with and reporting to the Artistic Director. FWM opened a newly renovated space in summer 2008 to continue its commitment to enable artists to work with new materials and expand their artistic practice while educating the public about the significance of contemporary art. The museum has a 32 year history of convening well-known and emerging artists from around the world, including Louise Bourgeois, Doug Aitken, Chris Burden, Jorge Pardo, Kara Walker, Claes Oldenburg, Lee Bul, Louise Nevelson, Matthew Ritchie, Roy Lichtenstein, Do-Ho Suh, Robert Morris and many emerging young artists.

The Associate Director is responsible for management of the day to day operations of the workshop and museum with oversight of planning, program management, board relations, development, public relations, facilities and operations, finance and budgeting, human resources, and earned revenue including touring exhibitions, and museum shop. The Associate Director ensures the integrity and execution of the artistic vision and also oversees archives and collections management functions and works closely with the Associate Director for Public Programs and Exhibitions. The Associate Director is responsible for managing 20 FWM staff. Minimum 5 years of related experience within a cultural setting, preferably a contemporary art organization. Strong commitment to leading and facilitating the fundraising program with the Artistic Director and Board of Trustees.

Associate Director for Public Programs and Exhibitions, working in concert with the Associate Director, and reporting to the Artistic Director, is responsible for the daily management and planning of artistic programming. Primary responsibilities include residencies, onsite exhibitions, multiples and facilities management. Specific tasks include managing staff, negotiating contracts, curatorial and administrative management of projects. Also responsible for exhibition research, artists' files, and working with education team to develop interpretive and outreach programs. Organize and facilitate work of the Artist Advisory Committee. Minimum 3 years of curatorial experience in contemporary art organization.

Both positions require MA Degree, ability to work with artists, and knowledge of museum practice and operations. Proven track record for effectively managing people, projects and budgets to achieve short and long-term institutional goals. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Gallery Guide (part time)

The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM), dedicated to creating and exhibiting new work by contemporary artists, seeks part-time Gallery Guides. Ideal for students seeking job experience at one of the world's foremost contemporary art institutions, the Gallery Guide position provides an important service to FWM by greeting visitors and providing general information about the museum and its programs as well as tours of temporary exhibitions and the print studio. Gallery Guides have the dual role of serving as gallery attendant assuring the safety of the works of art while visitors are in the galleries. The position also requires that candidates assist with front desk and museum shop administrative duties and provide general assistance to FWM staff especially in the areas of public relations and development. A background in Art Education, Art History or Museum Studies preferred. Candidates should be articulate, flexible, outgoing, and work well with others.
